Clay Rings

The first thing that comes to mind when you think about ceramics is relaxation. When working with clay your mind and body are in natural synergy, while also unlocking your creative potential and needs.

Clay rings have been the biggest trend this summer and this year. Follow these simple steps to craft your own clay rings and make your outfits that extra bit fun, while taking care of your mind, soul and creative urges.

You will need:

-      Air dry clay (you can also find coloured clay)

-       A glass of water

-       A spatula for ceramics

-       Acrylic glaze

-       Acrylic paint

-       Paint brushes

-       Other decorations (ex. glitter, rhinestones, beads)

Step 1

Cut off a piece of clay and roll it into a worm.

Step 2

Wrap the worm around your finger and measure the length of your ring. Cut off the extra length.

Step 3

Pinch the two ends of the worm together and seal it with water and a spatula. Make sure the ring is smooth and there are no cracks in the clay. Experiment with shapes and sizes; make as many rings as you want.

Step 4

Let your rings air dry completely, usually that takes about eight hours.

Step 5

Colour your rings with acrylic paint. You can stick your extra decorations on when the paint is dry.

Step 6

When the paint is completely dry, cover your rings with an acrylic glaze and let that dry too.

Congratulations! Now you have new and original accessories to enliven your looks. These rings also make great presents. Enjoy the process, connect with your creativity, get your hands dirty in clay, and have fun!
