MS Advocate and Curve Model Carmina Suzanne Shares How She 'Slay's in Her Own Way'

When your body is your instrument, and you have chronic health problems, that instrument is broken. How do you keep modeling when you may look incredible on the outside, but inside your body is attacking you? Those who suffer from chronic diseases like multiple sclerosis, lupus, fibromyalgia… all invisible disabilities that afflict many more in the fashion industry than you would guess.
MS advocate and curve model Carmina Suzanne, International photographer Velvet d’Amour, and glam squad Bombshell Beauties Hair & Make-up of Rochester NY rocked this shoot up-and-down Charlotte Beach on Lake Ontario. But what you don’t see is that Carmina was having seizures throughout the shoot, and afterwards had to vomit three times.
Velvet’s shoot are very quick and very physical, which Carmina knew. But she also knew that if she pushed herself as far as she could go, she would have incredible images for the rest of her life. The rolling around in the sand, the whipping of the head back-and-forth, getting up and down quickly multiple times, draping backwards over boats… All of those triggered a little neurological breakdown. Velvet even held Carmina’s hair back while she vomited one of the times! Having a loving, understanding team around you makes all the difference.
But as Carmina always says, “I will slay in my own way.” After all, it’s multiple sclerosis awareness month. And there’s no one tougher than an MS Warrior!
