Artist's Statement: "As a visual artist, painter, and actress, Simone Pommells creates very personal work with a shared experience in mind. Majority of these pieces are selections from Pommells’ first ongoing exhibition entitled “Puzzle Pieces”. This exhibition was largely inspired by her little brother, Kevin, who is autistic, extraordinarily creative and is non-verbal. Pommells appropriates Kevin’s brightly colored and imaginatively proportioned portraits. She has combined her experience with painting three dimensional portraiture and the two dimensional work of her brother in an attempt to address identity, communication and expression.

Pommells often receives images through her dreams and, in waking life, allows those images to take her places others can recognize, places we have all been, emotions we have all felt and experiences we have all had. Through the use of oil paint she creates work that aims to remind us that we all have the capacity to connect with one another, through one shared experience or a new perspective."
